How is Jesus God but also the Son of God?

John 1:1-2 reads “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.  The same was in the beginning with God.”
When Jesus lived and walked on this earth in the flesh he lived by and taught nothing but the Word of God.  Jesus was the word sent.  Considering that the Word was with God and that the Word was God, we know once again that Jesus Christ is God and was God manifest in the flesh.

John 1:14 reads “And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth.”
God the creator brought himself, the word, to life in the flesh and in the bodily form and name of Jesus or in the Jewish language “Yeshua.”

1 John 5:7 reads "For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one."

The future birth and coming of Jesus was prophesied about in the Old Testament:

Isaiah 9:6-7 reads “For unto us a child is born unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.  Of the increase of his government and peace there shall be no end, upon the throne of David, and upon his kingdom, to order it, and to establish it with judgement and with justice from henceforth even for ever.  The zeal of the Lord of hosts will perform this.”

Who is the child born?  Who is the Prince of Peace?  It is Jesus, once again Jesus is God (everlasting Father), and we see even in the Old Testament he was prophesied and foretold about before he came.

Jeremiah 23:5-6 reads “Behold, the days come, saith the Lord, that I will raise unto David a righteous Branch, and a King shall reign and prosper, and shall execute judgement and justice in the earth.  In his days Judah shall be saved, and Israel shall dwell safely: and this is his name whereby he shall be called, THE LORD OUR RIGHTOUSNESS.”

Isaiah 53:5-10 reads “But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.  All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and the Lord hath laid on him the iniquity of us all.  He was oppressed, and he was afflicted, yet he opened not his mouth: he is brought as a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before her shearers is dumb, so he openeth not his mouth.  He was taken from prison and from judgement: and who shall declare his generation? For he was cut off out of the land of the living: for the transgression of my people was he stricken.  And he made his grave with the wicked, and with the rich in his death; because he had done no violence, neither was any deceit in his mouth.  Yet it pleased the Lord to bruise him; he hath put him to grief: when thou shalt make his soul an offering for sin, he shall see his seed, he shall prolong his days, and the pleasure of the Lord shall prosper in his hand.”

John 4:24 reads “God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.”
We see from this verse that God is a Spirit.  To save us, he had to come in the flesh in bodily form in the name of Jesus Christ and die on the cross.  He had to go through and experience everything we go through in different ways to be as a man.  He was born of a woman whom was a virgin, making him in the flesh the Son of God.
You can read the story, birth, life, teachings, crucifixion, death, burial and resurrection of Jesus in the four gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke and John.  They all give the same account but through different views.

Jesus was born called the Son of God even though he was in fact God, because he was born of a woman and made flesh and gave his life unto the will of the father.  He was the express image of God (Hebrews 1:2-4).

Jesus was in every way tempted as we are today.  We know that he was tempted by the devil during his forty days of fasting.  You can read in Luke chapter 4 how he was tempted by the devil and how the devil tried to tempt him to turn stone into bread.
Jesus was in fasting during these forty days, so you can just imagine the temptation to eat that was before him.  Jesus was also tempted with kingdoms and power, which would have included riches and wealth by the devil.

Funny, the devil didn’t realize that all things already belonged to the Lord Jesus.
I’ve never heard a pastor say this, but I believe Jesus was also tempted by women.  I haven’t read this directly in the word, but if he was tempted in all ways as us, then indeed he was tempted by women and also resisted the temptation before him.  He was and still is perfect, spotless without sin.  Here are some scriptures to support this.
Hebrews 2:18 reads “For in that he himself hath suffered being tempted, he is able to succour them that are tempted.”
Hebrews 4:15 reads “For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin.”

He is the God of Israel.  He is the God of Abraham, Isaac, Jacob and all people.  He was a spotless or sinless lamb led to the slaughter to be crucified.
Talk about humility.  God humbled himself to be as one of us, to die a horrible death of crucifixion and be tormented, bruised and whipped even before he was nailed to the cross.  He deserves our full heart, praise and worship.
He bought us all for a price, and a great price it was that he had to pay.  We are his creation.  He died for his creation to save us from eternal damnation by providing us reconciliation unto himself.

John 5:43 reads “I am come in my Father’s name, and ye receive me not:  if another shall come in his own name, him ye will receive.”
Once again, I’m showing a verse giving the fact that Jesus came in the name of God.  The name of God is Jesus.  Jehoshua (Yehoshua) means Jehovah is salvation.  Jesus came from the name Joshua, which in turn came out of the name Jehoshua.  The Hebrew word Yeshua is the original name for the English name Jesus.  Yeshua the Mashiach means Jesus the Messiah.  The name "Jesus" is an Anglicization of the Greek Ίησους (Iēsous), itself a Hellenization of the Hebrew יהושע (Yehoshua) or Hebrew-Aramaic ישוע (Yeshua), meaning "YHWH rescues". "Christ" is a title derived from the Greek Χριστός (Christós), meaning the "Anointed One," which corresponds to the Hebrew-derived “Messiah.”  We clearly see that Jesus means God is now my salvation.

We know that God has many names such as Jehovah, The Great I am, The Alpha and Omega, Elohim and so on.  All power in heaven and earth was given to Jesus.  No one cometh unto the Father but by him.
Matthew 28:18 reads “And Jesus came unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth.”
Romans 14:11 reads “For it is written, As I live, saith the Lord, every knee shall bow to me, and every tongue shall confess to God.”

For example, Jehovah means Lord.  The term “EL” from Elohim means God.  Elohim means God the Creator.  The term EL Shaddai means “God Almighty.”  Jehovah is referred to by the Hebrews as Adonay, which means “The Lord.”
The Lord is God.  For example, Jehovah Jireh used in a sentence means the Lord will provide or the Lord will see.
Genesis 22:14 reads “And Abraham called the name of that place Jehovah-Jireh: as it is said to this day, In the mount of the Lord it shall be seen.”
This is where the Lord provided a ram sacrifice for Abraham when he was tested in faith if he would obey God and sacrifice his son Isaac unto the Lord.  The Lord of course was only testing Abraham.  Abraham obeyed God in his heart, and physically was about to sacrifice Isaac when the angel of the Lord called out to him and stopped him.  You can read this in Genesis 22:11-14.
As God tested Abraham and saw his obedience, we clearly see God’s obedience in letting his only begotten Son Jesus be offered up as a sacrifice, but also see that he went all the way through with the sacrifice for us all.   God took it one step further than Abraham had to go.
Jehovah-raffa means the Lord is our healer.  There are many more names of Jehovah (God) in the Holy Bible.  What matters most now is that God has become our salvation through Jesus Christ.
Isaiah 12:2 reads “Behold, God is my salvation; I will trust, and not be afraid: for the Lord Jehovah (God) is my strength and my song; he also is become my salvation.”  The name Jesus is interpreted as “Saviour.”

John 6:33-35 reads “For the bread of God is he which cometh down from heaven, and giveth life unto the world.  Then said they unto him, Lord, evermore give us this bread.  And Jesus said unto them, I am the bread of life: he that cometh to me shall never hunger; and he that believeth on me shall never thirst.”

John 6:38 reads “For I came down from heaven, not to do mine own will, but the will of him that sent me.”
Jesus showed the example for us to follow to submit and seek first after the will of God and not our own.

John 8:58 reads “Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Before Abraham was, I am.”
Jesus was telling them in this passage that he existed before Abraham, because he is God.  He is the express image of God.  He is the word of God robed in flesh sent to them.
1 Corinthians 10:2-4 reads “And were all baptized unto Moses in the cloud and in the sea; And did all eat the same spiritual meat; And did all drink the same spiritual drink: for they drank of that spiritual Rock that followed them: and that Rock was Christ.”
Jesus Christ was even the Rock that followed Moses and the children of Israel in the wilderness for forty years.

John 10:30 reads “I and my Father are one.”  Once again, Jesus is letting them know that he is God in the flesh (1 Timothy 3:16).  The Father, Son and Holy Ghost are one.  They are three manifestations-operations of the same body (Spirit).

How come many Jews then and today did not believe Jesus was the Son of God and Messiah?

For starters, if the Jews had known who Jesus really was they would have fought for him and kept him from his purpose, which was to fulfill the Old Testament and law, lay the first starting groundwork for ministry and forgiveness, die on the cross to shed his blood for the atonement of sins for all mankind.  The Jews would have protected Jesus if they knew and wouldn't have let him be crucified, so you see the Jews didn't really kill Jesus.  He could have been delivered with ease by legions of his angels, but instead he chose to give his life willingly so all mankind could receive true salvation and eternal life with the Father.

The Jews were also not looking for their Messiah to come as a man who wasn't great in stature or could not lead them in battle to overthrow Roman rule.  Jesus was seen as a man who wasn't wealthy and the son of a carpenter.  The Jewish people were partly blinded, so his identity had to be hidden so the will of the father would be accomplished.

Romans 11:23-27 reads “And they also, if they abide not still in unbelief, shall be graffed in:  for God is able to graff them in again.  For if thou wert cut out of the olive tree which is wild by nature, and wert graffed contrary to nature into a good olive tree:  how much more shall these, which be the natural branches, be graffed into their own olive tree?  For I would not, brethren, that ye should be ignorant of this mystery, lest ye should be wise in your own conceits; that blindness in part is happened to Israel, until the fullness of the Gentiles be come in.  And so all Israel shall be saved:  as it is written, There shall come out of Sion the Deliverer, and shall turn away ungodliness from Jacob:  For this is my convenant unto them, when I shall take away their sins.”
The Jews are beloved of the Father, and they are his election or elect.  They were blinded for a reason, but their eyes will be opened at the appointed time and they will see their coming King whom is Jesus Christ.
Romans 11:28 reads “As concerning the gospel, they are enemies for your sakes:  but as touching the election, they are beloved for the Fathers’ sakes.”
Isaiah 45:4 reads “For Jacob my servant’s sake, and Israel mine elect, I have even called thee by thy name: I have surnamed thee, though thou hast not known me.”
